Surprisingly, today’s game that joins the Guinness World Records, PlanetSide 2, has set a quite simple record. Back in 2011, Minecraft set a world record (among others) for the most people in a single Minecraft world, and PlanetSide 2 is taking the same approach.

It’s a very recent accomplishment, which was set up and completed on Saturday, January 24, 2015. Sony Online Entertainment and PlanetSide community site PlanetSideBattles teamed up to break the previous record for the ‘Most Players Online in A Single FPS Battle.’ The pair of groups succeeded by bringing together 1,158 players from the game’s three empires - Terran Republic, Vanu Sovereignty and New Conglomerate. The last title to hold this record was Man vs. Machine, which crammed 999 people into one battle in 2012.

David Carey, producer for PlanetSide 2, expressed excitement over the achievement, as well as the fact that the MMO managed to take the title back. According to Carey, the first PlanetSide was the original record holder:

Annie Nguyen, Video Games Records Manager at GWR, pointed to the new record as proof of how dedicated the PlanetSide community is:

If the game’s new achievement has some of you interested in checking out the game, you can buy it for free on PC at the game’s official site, or register for the closed PS4 beta. Aside from that, the ‘Guinness World Records 2015 Gamer’s Edition’ is on sale now.
