Recently, via Twitter, Nintendo gave fans a first look at the new Battle Stadium coming to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The Battle Stadium was a feature introduced in Pokemon Sword and Shield, allowing them to easily access the game’s core multiplayer battling options. The updated Battle Stadium will also act as a place for Pokemon players to showcase their battling skills, but a few new features are being added.

Some screenshots of fresh menus were shown off for the new Battle Stadium on Nintendo’s Twitter, where players will be able to select how they want to compete. So far, it appears that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will allow players to battle online in four ways. There are Ranked and Casual Battles, as well as Online Competitions and a new feature known as Rental Teams. The latter were available in Sword and Shield too, but they were only useable in the Battle Tower.

Rental Teams in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will allow a player to borrow a team ready for battling by inputting an ID another user has shared online. This will mean that if any player builds a particularly strong team of Pokemon, another fan doesn’t have to catch and train copies of that team and can instead just rent them through the ID. In the Pokemon battle simulator Pokemon Showdown, players can also borrow other teams of Pokemon, and it allows newer players to better understand the meta of which Pokemon are strong and how to make supposedly weaker monsters still be useful in battle.

The new Battle Stadium will utilize a lot of the online battle features seen in its Sword and Shield variation then, but with a few additions to build on the multiplayer competitive experience of Pokemon. Plenty of other new mechanics and features are coming with the release of the new games, including an open world for players to explore and a co-op mechanic in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet that will allow exploration of the Paldea region with friends.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release on November 18 on Nintendo Switch.
